Still-life studies are - for me - really about light and tone, and colour temperature

White studies force you to really think about colour temperature. When it comes to painting inanimate objects - which I always find quite easy - this makes it a challenge.

Incidentally, Harold Speed's 'Oil Painting Techniques & Materials' is still the best book I have ever read on art practice.
